White Rabbit

I am the White Rabbit.

I thought once I was Alice
Curious and full of wonderment
   Treading lightly in stocking feet
Overly observant of door mice, tea parties, and hatters
   Blissfully naive -
   The world, my wonderland.

then,

   the rabbit hole
             wormholed.

And it seemed I traded in my mary janes
             for rabbit feet.
No time for stargazing or lollygagging
Now there's just no time.

No time! No time!

Pocket-watches be damned
even Grandfather clocks mock my meager attempts
        digital tumblings towards temporary tomorrows
                digits daring, glaring
                daunting, taunting
     teasing us all
     daydreamers and poets
     to wake up!

Lucky 13

Roll the dice for me baby
     and don't think twice
Time just started winding its way around the bend
                                            again
and I'm not cashing out
      So don't you pout
and don't you cry
Santa may have closed up shop
but this is the New Year
and there's 12 months to play naughty and nice.

Lucky 13
        I ain't superstitious
not in cards, not in love
   not even for things unseen
It all just is or it ain't

So you wanna know will this be the year...
   well the year for what?
gamble on the red of life
       or the black of night
        pay the queen her due
         or dance with kings
Make 'em or break 'em, lay it all on the line
It's another year and we ain't got nothing but time.

       Aces high, deuces wild
I've got the soul of a 5-year-old child
who likes odd numbers and takin' chances
Playin' with angels and earthly romances
Then you walked in and gave me a smile

And I put it all on Lucky 13.

1440

tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-
          clock. It taunts
seductively showing off its ornate
hands
       in a circular dance
reminiscent of a gypsy life,
    never stopping, never settling down

micromanage
sun up to sun down, each and every
second
     these hands can't keep up
can't slow down those damn mechanical hands
no matter how hard I try nor what method I use
I've found a deaf ear, a blind eye to
my efforts, pleadings, beggings -
for more and more and more time
to slow down,
     merely a fraction here,
          speed up there
accomodate my silly mortal life
as if I, a silly mortal,
mattered at all in the hourglass of sand that makes up our existence.

Life’s Ride

Take the last train
And catch me by bullet plane
The wind whispers, "tonight, tonight, tonight"
My suitcase full of
Instances of your love
My heart lulls, "make it right."

That flaunty spring breeze
Plays peek-a-boo with the trees
My forehead cold against the glass
How it separates us still
Distance holds us against our will
Time crawls on so slowly past.

We weather our showers
Our struggles for power
Seeking more, yet time for less
Divine Inspiration
No time for anticipation
The soul just one big mess.

So take the last train
And meet me unrestrained
   Open and real and free
We'll ride on through dawn
Eternity and beyond
Together - just you and me
Together - on this amazing and wild journey.

Ode to Dreamers: A Trolaan

What are dreams?
wafting fragments of a memory
welded together at the seams
wearied bits and pieces of you and me.

Hopeful for so much more
How tinted are our rose-colored glasses
Hug tightly to each – leave them not on the floor
Hurried minutes then hours time passes.

Open up to the possibility
Overflow your creative cup
Onward through responsibility
Only way down is up.

Pray for purposes and fulfillment
Pick your fragments carefully
Push forward and follow the way they went
Picture paradise – that’s where you’ll find me.
