(1/30 – 30 Poems in 30 Days – April National Poetry Month)
[Prompt: Beginnings]
60 degrees and sunny
A beautiful, warm picturesque day
The first hint of spring
Too early
We know better
Living next to the Erie beast
That once presented, never stays for long
Just a tease, a glimpse
A reminder that we should all be snow birds
Either flocking south for somewhere warm
Or flocking back to our gloves, our boots, our jackets
It started
Warm, soft
Delicate and tender – so beautiful the sound on the rooftop
It escalated
Quickly, oh so quickly
Into a storm
And yet, even then it altered course
Away from pounding raindrops
And into the wet, white, fleet of flakes
Rain and then white out
The poor daisies have bowed their heads in defeat
So quickly spring had sprung
Until Winter snapped her fingers and with a little help from the Lake
Reclaimed her throne a little bit longer.
