(20/30 – 30 Poems in 30 Days – April National Poetry Month)
[Prompt: Choose an event from the past 24 hours of your life and write a poem about it.]
Time
as we are told
is a fleeting thing
The seconds which make up minutes
turn to hours then days
finally weeks fly by and we look back
at the months that passed
until the time we celebrate another year
A tragic accident, sickness, illness, disease, old age –
all make us look at our own clocks
trying to fine tune what time we have left
In this brief realm of existence
nothing has made me more appreciative and aware of time
than trying to plan a day around
a newborn breastfed infant
Spending time just being in the moment
between errands and chores
changing diapers and learning
learning this new person
and rediscovering myself
Time has a whole new meaning now.
