(5/30 – 30 Poems in 30 Days – April National Poetry Month)

[Prompt: Choose a flower, a bird, or tree]

Underneath the great oak
Sprawled out on soft cloth
with a picnic spread even a king would envy
a warm, romantic day
so long ago
I can’t recall the month nor year

I knew then it would not last
but on that day
he was mine
his attention undivided
and the youthful girl that I was
so heady with excitement and awe
young love and infatuation

I remember the blue sky and white fluffy clouds
kids playing on the hill
eating grapes and sipping wine
I remember not what was said
just a visual memory – a postcard really
from Seurat’s sketchbook
